My favourite things

by WizardOfWords on February 26, 2009

The Sound of Music (the movie/musical) is keeping me positive this morning. I was going to start the blog with some profanity, expressing my discontent with the weather here in my neck of the woods (it’s -33C with the windchill this morning and we’re only hoping for a high of -21!)

But instead, I’ll do what they recommend in the Sound of Music and focus on a few of my favourite things to help me through the day. And already … “I don’t feel so bad.”
You Tube even has a couple videos of the infamous “My Favourite Things” if you really need inspiration. You can choose from a excerpt from the movie or a cute slide show of visuals to coincide with the words. See: http://www.youtube.com and search for your favourite version.
A few of my favourite things are fine wine, experiential travel, the beauty of natural wonders and luxurious pampering, so you can imagine my happy hysteria when visiting a wine resort set in a magical setting. In my job as a travel writer, I’ve had the pleasure of visiting a few such places and hope to see more.
And I am fortunate to have a client who likes to publish these stories. Vantage Canada is a wonderful online community of philanthropic people. You can learn more about their efforts and some of the great people they have profiled at: http://www.vantagemagazine.ca/giving.php
You can read a couple of my wine resort stories on my website at:

… and for a delicious wine resort in Elciego, Spain see:

Let’s hope the weather in Manitoba is better tomorrow. But for now, if you are facing a challenge that loosens your footing, just try and focus on the fond memories of your own favourite things.
Doreen.
